Submarine Commander Jodi Bennington is the first woman to command a United States nuclear powered attack submarine. The Shark Fin (Seawolf class) is a 1.3 billion-dollar weapon of destruction armed with torpedoes, and missiles. It is designed to seek out adversaries of the United States that are intent on bringing harm to the free world by way of the high seas.
During Commander Jodi’s first voyage as Captain of the Shark Fin, she and her mostly all male crew are involved in a deadly game of tag, with a rogue British submarine bearing nuclear weapons. The confrontation takes place in the North Atlantic 680 miles north of Bermuda in the area known as the Hatteras Abyss, where in 1986 the Russian nuclear submarine K-219 caught fire and sunk.
“Commander, you mean to tell this Board of Inquiry that your intent was to fire your torpedoes at our closest ally the British?” asked the Provost. Commander Bennington replied, “Yes sir.”

The Shark Fin’s assignment involves Navy Seals and the U.S.Coast Guard. This novel combines fiction with recently declassified information from the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. Jodi finds herself challenged by her assignment, the gender gap between herself and her crew, a hostile board of inquiry, and her fateful decisions, regarding the use of weapons.
